The follow up committee, tasked with ensuring that projects finance under the public investment budget are properly executed to benefit the population of Mezam Division in the North West region, has applauded the rate of physical realization of  2025 projects accorded the division.

This follows an evaluation meeting that took place Thursday January 15 at the conference hall of the North West Regional delegation of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development.

Mezam for 2025 had a total of 97 projects, funded to the tune of 2billion, 941million, 546 thousand, 286  francs.

Minepat Mezam divisional delegate Mawo Evelyn, via a power point presentation of executed projects, revealed at the session that 71 out of the 97 projects had been completely realized by the end of 2025, with a physical realization rate of 86.73%, financial engagement at 97%.

She noted that while 22 out of the 97projects were ongoing, work is yet to start on 4 of the projects.

"As a technical ministry in charge of monitoring, I'm pleased with the percentage we've obtained this year, even though I expected better, but I appreciate and encourage that we do better this year" she said.

Project actualisation for 2025 witnessed a 1% increase, compared to the 85.4% obtained in 2024. The committee vice chairperson Fon Nsoh, said the slight increase in percentage goes a long way to add value to the job done by all the stakeholders involved the execution chain for 2025.

Difficulties such as prolonged lockdown imposed by non-state actors in the North West, scarcity of some construction materials and slow payments of contractors bills, were some of the challenges faced in executing projects, as cited.

To ensure that the remaining projects are completed and handed to the beneficiary communities, and that programs for 2026 do not experience delays in their execution, the committee took a good number of recommendations amongst which include:

✓ For contracting authorities to respect contracting procedures, awarding contracts on time and to contractors who can deliver,

For the beneficiary community to accompany the projects through their local leaders or quarter heads, and for the treasury to pay the bills of contractors on time.

" To ensure that we have more this year which is the determination of everyone here, we have to continue to sensitize every stakeholder about the importance of early planning of their projects and early contracting, ensuring that contracting processes are transparent and given to those who can deliver on tasks.. " Fon Nsoh Said

Ranking of councils by performance for 2025

In terms of performance, the Bamenda City Council which had just two supplies (an excavator and compactor to the BCC) emerged first in the ranking with 100% physical realization. Santa Council with over 13 projects came 2nd with 98.85%, followed by Bamenda I council with 97.84% at position number 3.

Bali, Bafut, Tubah and Bamenda II were ranked 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th respectively in terms of performance, while the Bamenda III council seats at the bottom of the classification table with 68.67%.

The committee also resolve to forward before the competent state counsel, the files of some contractors who have failed to deliver on projects they contracted as far back as 2017 after being fully or partially engaged financially.
