Tubah sub prefect, Massango Metoughe Narcisse

In an interview, the sub divisional officer for Tubah, Massango Metoughe Narcisse has reacted to the series of unfortunate incidences that have befallen his area of competence lately.

On March 3rd, the lifeless body of a student of the university of Bamenda was discovered on the ground floor of a hostel. Preliminary investigations suggested the 19-Year old by name Ngwa, drank to stupor with two other friends on Sunday March 2nd and after returning home, he fell from the balcony of his room located on the 2nd floor of the hostel where he lived, and that was it.

Police officers called to the scene discovered a huge consignment of marijuana in his house and thrashed cans of a hard liquor called "bullet".

The dust of the above incident was still to settle, when, two days later on March 5th, a fraudster of 19 years by name miyanui, hit to dead a 25-Year-old student of the college of technology of the university of Bamenda by name Nah Song, who occasionally uses his bike for commercial purpose to fend for himself.

It was reported that the 19 year old behind the wheel was on top speed and eventually loose control of the vehicle, before hitting his victim at the katika junction, few metres to the university gate.

Massango Metoughe Narcisse speaks

"Tubah sub division is predominantly a student area and these kind of incidents come up from time to time in this community. It's been a challenging week for us. These two students lost their lives on ills that we have been decrying and fighting - which is drug addiction.."

" While the circumstances surrounding these incidents are yet to be elucidated by the investigation unit, I will like to say that there's still work that has to be done on the control of drugs here in Tubah. In the days ahead, with the sub divisional etat major,  on instructions from hierarchy to whom we have submitted reports about these incidences, we will look at ways of embarking on a crackdown on drugs.. "

" ..On excessive speeding and reckless life of scammers, we don't want to say we are almost helpless. We will just say there's still work to be done. We have instructed the respective check points at our internal routes to check this. We are sending an appeal to the council, to help us erect speed brakes, especially on stretches which are used by students.."

".. Again at our local level - in the days ahead, we will reactivateour impromptu controls in these hostels. We thought that with our previous initiatives, drug consumption had drop amongst the student population but it's obvious that there's still work to be done. In collaboration with the university, we will try to establish those who are students in Tubah and those that are not, so that we can have proper checks and tracking, to avoid these unfortunate incidences"

Massango Metoughe Narcisse speaks on students/ youths owning exotic, sophisticated cars at 19 and 20 years old.

"We don't have a clear-cut law determining what age one should own or have a car. Sometimes we get so frustrated that we impound the vehicles and asked the students to bring their parents. We collect the car documents sometimes but with the financial powers they have, they prefer to abandon these documents and do lost documents or duplicate the car documents. So we only use this method of inviting their parents. You cannot blame the administration. The parents too have to do their job. How often do they visit these children and control them?. During prolonged breaks at the university, most of them that stay behind, are the scammers because theu can't carry these big vehicles to their parents. However we are still going to collaborate with the control brigade of the university where we are member, and together we see how to really check the identity of all young persons purported to be in the university, staying out of campus, because those who are in campus, the control is easy and the university does it impromptu. Those who are out of Campus, their status is not the same. They are not directly liable to university controls. So we need to know exactly wether they are students, perhaps have access to their platform and even check.."

The divisional officer had banned late night parties within student residential hostels in an export to combat insecurity.

Young fraudsters, popularly called scammers have continue to use Bambili neighborhood as a hub for their social activities.

Late last year a girl abandoned a child in front of what she thought was an orphanage, just to attend a party organized by scammers in Bambili.
