By Martial Gnoukapasir
Paul Atanga Nji, Territorial Administration boss in Cameroon, has indicated that nothing will be left to chance in the buildup to, during, and after the presidential elections of October 12.
He was speaking in Bamenda on Friday, October 3, as he chaired the security meeting of the region.
Minister Nji Paul, who is rounding up his tour of all 10 regions to prepare the grounds and measure security in the regions, said that on firm instructions from the Head of State, His Excellency President Paul Biya, his ministry has made available key guidelines that must be respected by all 12 presidential aspirants and others to ensure the elections takes place in the 360 sub divisions of the country in total serenity.
"President Paul Biya in his end of year address to the Nation in 2024, invited all political stakeholders to show maturity during this election"
ELECAM, as per the laws of the republic, remains the only body to pilote the affairs of this election, he insisted. Indicating that all other actors, NGO's, internal and external observers must submit themselves to the dictates of ELECAM's competence.
"There's an institution to handle any electoral litigation if any candidate feels otherwise about the elections. we will not tolerate any street protest. Those who want to cry should go and cry in their houses and not on the streets".
He has also instructed the military to assist ELECAM on the field by securing election materials and personnel throughout the election process.
For fragile zones in the region, election materials, he indicated, will be airlifted to these areas by helicopter if the need arises.
Anglophones marginalizing anglophones
Minister Atanga Nji Paul also address the current socio-political imbroglio facing the north west and south west regions. He said it is now an issue of "anglophones marginalizing anglophones" and has never been an anglophone versus francophone issue.
The victimizing of business owners by separatists, kidnapping and maiming citizens, burning of houses and looting to name but these, are actions that further stigmatizes the region.
He however noted that there is only one course of action for those still carrying arms against the state, which is to surrender and enjoy the benevolence of President Paul Biya at the disarmament and reintegration centre (DDR).
Call to Parents in the North West.
The interior minister, while lauding the effort of the administration and security forces of the region for their efforts in restoring peace, has sounded an alarm for parents to do more in ensuring that separatists down their weapons.
"These are your children, if you as a father or mother threaten to report your child to the security and administration if he/she doesn't drop their arms, this crisis will be over in the next 10 or 20 days, or within a month"
Minister Atanga Nji Paul has also wage a war to institutions and all those harbouring "terrorists". He said those who are caught in that web will be treated as accomplices and shall be treated in strict compliance with the laws of the land.
