North West Regional Assembly President, Fru Angwafo III, Highlights Key Achievements of First Term in Office
The president of the North West Regional Assembly, professor Fru Forbuzshi Angwafo III, has presented a compendium of projects the assembly has been able to execute in an effort to restore peace and foster economic growth within the first 5 years that completes his first term of office.
Speaking to the press shortly after opening the 2025 final budget orientation debate on Monday September 22, the president went into statistics presentation of a series of programs the special status structure, birthed by the Major National Dialogue of 2019, has been able to realize under projects like it's Peace and Development Initiative (PDI).
He indicated at the September 225 ordinary session that, together with the peoples representative at the assembly, they've done an auto evaluation and came to a consensus that they have done the most they could so far, in areas and ministries that were devolved to the assembly, scoring themselves 98% in terms of overall performance.
The balance sheet talks of a total of 244 projects executed under the public investment budget since 2021. PIB projects which professor Fru Angwafo said have been completely realized, received, accepted and paid for. Achievements that are measurable and impactful in all the divisions
A total of 212 projects were executed under the Peace and Development Initiative (PDI), which has benefited over 5000 persons. Projects he said were initiated and executed by the various communities in all 34 subdivisions of the North West under the 2023 phase, which boasted their local economies and presented opportunities for them to rally together in achieving the process of peace building and social cohesion. 100 of such projects are ongoing for the 2025 lap.

He also laid emphasis on the construction of the regional lodge, which is a 9-storey hotel for the region that will also host serve as the headquarters of the regional assembly. A project he said will be received upon completion by the end of this year.
The regional lodge constitutes one of the 8 multi projects that is expected to be completed by December, with 2 of them to be received by the end of this month of September.
Regional roads maintenance plus construction of gutters and culverts in all devolved areas, water schemes, construction and maintenance of Schools, rehabilitation of hospitals and donation of hospital equipments, planting of friendly environmental trees in all sub divisions to combat climate change, assistance to displaced persons, establishment of lost birth certificates and other documents for vulnerable children, are some of the accomplishments he highlighted.
Under flagship programs like the North West Development and Investment Fund (NOWEDIF), Over 100 young entrepreneurs and innovators have benefited and launch 49 start-ups which according to the president, will create over 1000 jobs yearly and generate a total of over 6 billion FCFA by 2035.
The provision of health vouchers to pregnant women, partnerships with NGO's like smile train and e-base which led to life changing surgeries for children with cleft lips, capacity building for medical personnel and community health workers was also a milestone in this current mandate .

After citing the achievements within the first five years, they assembly members jointly commit to vote and work for the reelection of Biya in the upcoming presidential elections.
"As the bells for the presidential elections chines, members of this house commits to work for the re-election of the father of the special status, his excellency Paul Biya"
He thank the state for ensuring a steady evolution of the functional budget of the assembly.
This 2025 the budget for the assembly stood at over 10billion, a driving force towards the key realisations.
Professor Fru Angwafo III also indicated that the assembly started with just 7 bankable projects in 2021 and as these first mandate draws to an end, they can boost of over 99 key major programs which has been attained at almost 98%. A remarkable feat according to him.
All these in an environment marked by persistent lockdowns and ghost towns, school boycott amongst other conflict related ills.
According to North West governor Adolph Lele lafrique, the works of the north west regional assembly within this first mandate, is testament that the head of state was right to grant the region, a special status.
With the Regional elections billed for November 30th this year, the governor congratulated professor Fru Angwafo III and his team for their contributions to peace and rebuild the regions economy despite the challenges.
He wished them well, hoping the electorates will listen to those who served their people well come November 30th.
