Graafi Sports Academy emerges Champion of the Hon.Nextus Fru Manju's Bamenda Peace and Solidarity Tournament
The Maiden edition of the Bamenda Peace and Solidarity Football Tournament, an initiative of member of Parliament for Bamenda/Bali, honourable Nextus Fru Manju, has folded in Bamenda.
The finals of the competition that took place at the Bamenda municipal stadium, Sunday September 7 ended with the award of cash prizes and trophies, celebrating the talents that emerged from the competition.
Graafi Sports Academy after beating the boys of Old Town United 5-4 on penalties, were crowned champions for this maiden edition, that saw four teams clashed on a home and return leg basis for close to three weeks.
The kickoff ritual was performed by the General Manager of North West Development Authority- Mideno, Cletus Anye Matoya who doubles as section president of the CPDM Mezam 1B, and special guest of the member of parliament at the finals He had the privilege of according the trophy to the champions, accompanied by a cash prize of FCFA 400,000.
Old Town United, emerges best looser and took home an envelope of FCFA 200,000.
The member of parliament for Mezam Center said the objective of the tournament was to champion the course for peace and solidarity amongst the denizens of the mezam center constituency.
" Peace is the most cherished asset in Bamenda and the people therein are peace merchants. This is the maiden edition and next year we are going to have a very much reinforce edition, with stakes that are going to be higher than this" Nextus said.
He congratulated the champions, the organizing team for their efforts in ensuring that the tournament unfolded to the end peacefully.
Cletus Matoya express satisfaction with the peoples representative for using sports as a catalyst for peace and to bring youths of his constituency together.
Speaking at the start of the competition, the main coordinators, comprising of Tamah Collins Nkehwamo and Ivo Mbi has indicated that it was a tournament not just for the money but to see young and old talents integrating themselves via football, and also to stop narcotic activities using sports, building their mental health in the process.
