Honourable Agho Oliver encourages project owners in Mezam to bring community leaders onboard for effective realisation of Investment credits

Mezam divisional committee chair Hon. Agho Oliver speaks to stakeholders

The chairperson of the follow-up committee, charged with supervising the realisation of projects with funds from the public investment budget in Mezam, has laid emphasis on the need for project owners to effectively collaborate with community leaders in their project areas for effective and quality execution of their contracts.

Honourable Agho Oliver, representing the Bafut-Tubah constituency in parliament, made the appeal Tuesday July 22, at the second quarter 2025 divisional participatory meeting which evaluated the rate of execution of public investment budget projects in the division, seven months into 2025.

The committee chairperson shared the opinion that projects are quickly materialized and perfectly done when community leaders like the fons, civil society, quarter heads, religious heads and institutions, and members of the beneficiary community are brought onboard during the execution process.

"It is only in inclusivity that we can achieve meaningful development", he stated.

Contractors, according to him, can easily penetrate the suburbs and execute their projects despite the security concerns, when they liaise with the local population in the project area.

Mezam division for 2025 has a total of 91 projects, funded to the tune of over 2.4billion francs. Almost all the projects have been awarded, 8 completely executed and 38 ongoing, putting physical execution rate for Mezam division at over 38%.

In terms of performance so far, Bafut council comes first with a realization rate of over 60 percent, followed by Santa with 34.34 and Bali with 34.19. The city council ranks last with 0% execution of projects so far.

It was revealed in the meeting that reforms are gradually being effected to digitalized the award process of contracts.

An innovation and move welcomed by the committee chairperson, which according to him will go a long way in fighting corruption in the award procedure of contracts.

In the above mentioned light, he launched a call for the ministry of public contracts to trained the concerned stakeholders to live up to this digital reality.

The committee frowned at the non realization of projects that have been financially engaged fully, promising legal action to such project owners and contractors.

It also expressed dissatisfaction with the poor quality of materials used by some contractors to execute the projects.

A major highlight of the event, was the reception of the newly acquired grader, purchased by Bafut council under the public investment budget to the tune of 100million franc.
