Bamenda I Councilors examine, vet 2024 accounts

Councilors of the Bamenda I council have examined and adopted the administrative and management accounts of the council.

The session validating the accounts took place Thursday April 24 at the council hall.

The council budgeted over 1billion for 2024 but was able to realize over 612 million francs, which it used to carry out developmental projects within the municipality.

Mayor Mbigha Felix noted that the realisation for 2024 was a mile stone for a council that struggled to realize 200million as local revenue in the previous administration.

Notably amongst the good number of projects that the council realized from what was raised, is the opening and widening of numerous roads within the various quarters of Bamendakwe.

Construction of an agric post, construction and fencing of the women's empowerment centre, construction of a theatre block at the Bamenda I subdivisional hospital, rehabilated the good shepherd home at Abangoh, rehabilitation of two bloc of two classrooms each at government school Ntoh, to name but these.


The mayor saluted the quarter heads for their contributions in the realization of most of these projects, especially road works within the municipality.

Mayor Mbigha Njah Felix suggested that to achieve more for the community, there's need for the traditional council of Bamendakwe, the Bamendakwe Village Development Association and the Council to synchronize and harmonize their development plans. He used the session to solicit training support from the North West regional delegation of Decentralization and local development in this regard.

A good number of deliberations were adopted during the session, amongst which was a deliberation, authorizing the council to operate a quarry and another which authorized the mayor to contract a loan from the Islamic Bank to solve the water crisis which is a huge challenge in the Bamenda I community.

"I want to thank the councilors for the deliberations we've had and adopted that will certainly help this community. Decentralization has come and has empowered us to look for funds to develop our municipality. That's why through the deliberations we have agreed to run a quarry since we have rocks that we can extract and quarry gravel to sell, generate funds to develop this community" he said.

He also added that with the adoption of a deliberation granting the council rights to contract a loan from the Islamic Bank, the council can conveniently tackle the water crisis in Bamenda I.

" We want this community to have a good source of water, which can help every household"

From the various reports, it was evident that there's urgent need to tackle the water crisis, especially at the Bamenda I council market.

The social welfare committee during the session, highlighted the need for these to be addressed and for the council to also improved on the toilet facilities of the market. The committee also recommended fro the construction of public toilets within the sub division, which can also be used as a source of revenue.

There was also a proposal, for the council to do some extra works at the level of the council museum, to attract visitors and generate incime from there as well.

The Fon of Bamendakwe who answered present just like the representative of the senior divisional officer for Mezam, saluted the council in its strides.

The two, however called for continuous collaboration between the councilors and the mayor, reminding them that their overall interest should and must be that if serving their community.
