A consignment of over 200 bags of rice, other food and sanitary items like salt and soaps have been handed over to internally displaced persons from some communities of the North West resident in Bamenda, Orphans and the Muslim Community of old town.

The philanthropic gesture was an initiative of the Director of Road Transport, Dr Mbamone and Chief Ntonefor Kembou Rene of Soh Bafut, who's doubles as the fourth deputy mayor of the Bafut Council.

Handing over the items at a symbolic event that took place Thursday March 20th at the old town neighborhood, one of the donors Chief Ntonefor Rene said the humanitarian gesture, is an extension of what they have been doing to many communities for the past 10 years.
He indicate that, with the coming of the crisis, no one can be oblivious of the fact that life has gotten much harder, especially for the internally displaced persons who find it difficult to access basic food commodities. Reason why they decided to embark on this gesture sharing with them especially with the muslims who are also observing Ramadan.

" The reason we choose Bamenda for this donation is because we are conscious of the fact that our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters, most of them have left the villages, abandoning their farms which could've fetch them enough food and are settled in Bamenda" he said.

Chief Ntonefor went further to say, while the government is making huge efforts and sacrifices to ensure that peace and stability returns to the region, they as donors have taken upon themselves to to continue to lobby with those who can help to be able to get the items they have distributing to the vulnerable population.

" We didn't pile up all these food items because we have money, we have people who believe in us and in our humanitarian efforts and have decided to assist by donating these items"

The beneficiary communities of internally displaced persons, resident in Bamenda that benefited from the donation included the Awing, Nsongwa, Bali, Kom, Bafut, Manyu, Tubah, Upper Bayelle, the muslims and non muslims communities of old tow,  amongst others
