Quarter heads of Bamenda I Council area receive clean up campaign materials

The items comprises of fifty garbage collection plastic buckets for the collection of biodegradable and  non-biodegradable waste, fifty wheelbarrows, same number for the spades, Cutlasses and hand tillers, distributed evenly to the quarter heads of the Bamendakwe council area.

According to the city mayor, the distribution of these materials, Sunday of February 9 which coincidentally was World Habitat Day, is to compliment the efforts of the quarter heads which in tandem with the Bamenda I council have decided to reinstate the concept of the monthly clean up campaign exercise within the municipality. 

He added that " One of our key values is a clean environment, we want Bamenda to be clean.. the cleanliness of our city is not a singular responsibility of the enterprise charged with the cleaning, it is a collective responsibility, that is why we have implore the quarter heads, the mayor and those living in Bamenda to see that collectively we have a clean Bamenda I"

On how effective the process will be, he explained that " the equipments will first of all top the dumping of garbage on the streets, the cleaning companies will be going from door-to-door collecting them and take them to the various dump sites".


To the vice president of the council of quarter heads in Bamenda I Ngu Michael, the materials will assist in the efforts to keep the quarters clean.

" We have been trying to keep the quarter clean, but we had some limitations like lack of materials and so on. This gift coming now is very strategic because it will help us in the process, it's very handy and very useful for us"

To the mayor of Bamenda I, the goodwill gesture from the city mayor has only come reinforce a series of programs engaged by the council to keep the municipality clean.

" Bamenda I in the rankings of last year was  1st in Mezam division and 3rd in the region. We are doing all these, reintroducing the clean up campaign to ensure that the council is 1st this year at the national level, reason why we adopted the deliberation at the council to have all last Fridays of the month for a our special clean up campaign exercise"
