Bamenda II: Mayor Chenwie Peter Burys Water Crisis in Ntamulung II, Ntambag with modern boreholes
By Martial Gnoukapasi
Portable drinking water now flows in abundance in the neighborhoods of Ntamulung II and Ntambag thanks to two giant boreholes constructed by the Bamenda II council under mayor Chenwie Peter.
The two giant modern boreholes pumped with the aid of a solar panel worth 15 million each were inaugurated March 31st 2022 by mayor Chenwie peter
Receiving the precious liquid, coming at a time when there's a multiplication of cases of cholera sparked by the absence of portable drinking water that has forced many to fetch the precious liquid from doubtful sources, the inhabitants showered praises on the mayor and the Council for the initiative which they confessed will reverse any cholera threat facing their communities.
"Water is Life" says the quarter head for ntamulung II Amabo Peter Ngwa who at the inaugural, confessed to MNews237 that the community has never had free water for close to 67 years to the best of his knowledge.
"Nobody lives without water, water is Life like air and all of us have been suffering in this community because of the absence of water. We had a tap that had gone bad for a long time now, forcing people to get water from doubtful sources. The Bamenda II council is a vibrant council and the mayor is a son of this quarter. We thank him for this"
Same feeling was shared at the Ntambag neighborhood in old town by the inhabitants.
Imam Mustapha is the quarter head for Ntambag III. He after gulping a glass of the precious liquid said " Water which occupies 70% of the human system is the highest thing you can offer a human being. We are blessed with this project and with the Cholera outbreak, this water has come at the right time, to the right place and to the right people. We salute the mayor and his council for a job well done. It's as if he knows what we were going through in it's absence"
Mayor Chenwie Peter thank the inhabitants of the two communities for their collaboration in getting the projects realised.
Considering these are cosmopolitan communities, receiving and harbouring strangers and guests from other regions, he said there was absolute need to make available portable water to help prevent the circulation of cholera in these communities.
Mayor Chenwie Peter promised another borehole project to the inhabitants of Ntambag community as he urged it's inhabitants to make good use of the existing scheme.
He saluted the inhabitants of Ntambag neighborhood for maintaining peace within the community despite the crisis, making it possible for the council to realise projects for the interest of those in therein.
" The council is there for you and won't want to see you get sick. Everyday we pay bills for people within the municipality and we don't want to continue doing that because of the absence of water. While we continue to carryout other lofty projects here, I will want to assure you that we'll work with your quarter heads to see that another borehole gets to old town" he adds.
