Sports: 8 Clubs to participate at first ever Bamenda pre-season tourney

Dubbed "The Bamenda Pre-season Solidarity Tournament", it's organizing president Nji Nelson Chefor confessed at a press gathering Thursday February 3rd at the NW Fecafoot premises that the competition - first of it's kind will be played at the Saint Paul field in mile 3 Nkwen, and will feature 8 clubs amongst which are 2 elite One and 2 elite Two teams being Young Sports Academy, PWD of Bamenda, Foncha street FC and Rangers FC of Bafut respectively.

3 regional league clubs comprising of Hilltop Strikers, Rainbow FC and Bafmeng United plus one 3rd divisional side being Option Sport of Bamenda completes the list of clubs that have been selected to be part of the tournament.

"Our reason for picking out these teams are purely strategic, we have selected the teams that can push our elite teams to their limit and play without inferiority complex" said Nji Nelson

With support from the North West Fecafoot under Mbigha Felix, the tournament to last 12 days shall begin Friday 4th February 2022 and will be handled by Elite referees and match officials who master the rule of the game.

The Pre tournament has been motivated by the fact that professional teams keep emerging from the region but must travel kilometers away to take part in solidarity tournaments each time they need to get themselves fit ahead of championships in the country.

Quizzed on why no elite female team was part-taking in the tournament, the organizing committee president said Vision Sport and Ita Mbong will play a gala game before the finale should they indicate their readiness and availability.


Sponsored by Fifth Ref- An association of football lovers in the country and abroad, co-founded by Ashi Anuma and Oncle Terrence with Ivo Mekole serving as president, the motive for Fifth Ref jumping onboard the Pre-season Solidarity Tournament as explained, falls in line with their objective of promoting anything sports especially football in the North West region.

Benefits of the Pre-season Solidarity tourney

- The participating teams shall be entitled to participation bonuses that will assist them kick start the 2022 football season in the country after the AFCON.

- An opportunity for lone division 3 club side Option sports that has been training for years without opportunity to play matches, to finally take part in a competition.

- Teams that have already recruit players for the season have the opportunity to test their 'savior-fair' during this tourney.
